The Giants of Audiology is a segment where host Bob Traynor is joined by some of the profession’s most influential figures. In this week's episode, we are joined by Dr. Richard Tyler - considered one of the foremost experts in the areas of tinnitus and hyperacusis. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery and the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Iowa. With extensive experience in the field, he has published articles on a range of topics including diagnostic audiology, signal-processing hearing aids, and auditory training. His main areas of interest are tinnitus, hyperacusis, and cochlear implants. Dr. Tyler has edited several books on tinnitus and cochlear implants, and he regularly sees tinnitus patients and hosts an annual Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Treatment Workshop every June.
Dr. Tyler has served on several grant review committees for prestigious organizations such as the NIH, VA, and DOD, and has also served on committees for the National Science Foundation, the World Health Organization, the American Academy of Otolaryngology, and the Veterans Administration. His extensive research has led him to be a visiting scholar in several countries including China, South Africa, Australia, Sweden, Poland, Germany, and France.
