This week the Beck Did It Better boys dive into the 1967 record from the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. We are talking about the great documentary "Amazing Grace" and why James Cleveland bugged us so much. We delve into recording the album at Muscle Shoals and why Aretha's version of RESPECT is so much better than Otis Redding's.
We get a couple of calls from (very nice) people (that we don't make fun of) demanding to have Matt talk more and we get into whether or not Oasis' "Wonderwall" is a good stadium song for the Minnesota United FC or if something more homegrown might work better. We look at some famous stadium songs and decide that BECK DOES IT BETTER.
Then we talk about reffing and how unimportant things like rules and starting the watch. Then we talk about the male boudoir photoshoot and Aaron gives us a pallet cleaner with a list of the best NEEDLE DROPS on any album. Does John Coltrane make the list? How about the equally famous group UGK? Jay-Z? Al Green? Raveonettes? This list is a wild one and we are very respectful of Aaron's decisions.
We then marvel at Aretha's voice and talk The Blues Brothers and how it is the one place you can find James Brown, Ray Charles, Cab Calloway, Aretha, and the lyrical stylings of Dan Aykroyd.
Plus the intros to this podcast just get better and better.
If you are still reading this, you are a psycho and just the kind of person who we want to interact with.
