Programming Lucid Dreams: Mapping Techniques, Shared Dreaming, and the Hero’s Journey with Vaughn Brasch
In this High Strangeness episode, the host interviews Vaughn Brasch, who lives on a rustic eight-square-mile San Juan Island and wrote Programming Your Lucid Dreams while working in an art studio. Brasch distinguishes “common” restless dreams from lucid dreams, describing lucid dreams as vivid, focused experiences in which the dreamer is aware and can exert control, sometimes likening them to near-death experiences and out-of-body states. He recounts a spontaneous lucid dream while snowed in on Mount Hood that led him to study yoga and self-hypnosis, seek a dream guide, and develop a “mapping” pictograph technique to induce lucid dreams by relaxing the body, quieting the analytical mind, and visualizing destinations. The conversation covers time’s fluidity in lucid states, stillness as a key habit, shared lucid dreaming done simultaneously, and the hero’s journey as a model for personal transformation. Brasch shares where to find his book and mentions an upcoming
book, Healing the Subtle Body.
