138 Eileen O'Brien Held More Cards For Larry 'Bud' Melman Than Anyone, We Think
This week’s guest features Eileen O'Brien, who has an impressive background in show business and film festivals, and she’s also known for her work with Kevin Kay and his team at 30 Rock in the mid-80s, creating cue cards for some of the most iconic shows on television.
Eileen is the subject of the short documentary Cue Card Girl, which can be found in many places, including YouTube. The documentary tells many stories about Eileen, focusing mainly on her time with Saturday Night Live. But that’s not all she did; Eileen was on call every night for Late Night with David Letterman. While Kevin Kay usually did Dave’s cards, whenever a second cue card person was necessary for the show, Eileen was called into action, and that happened many times over the years.
She and Mike have a delightful conversation about some of the things she has seen in her career, and she talks at length about how much she enjoyed working with Late Night during those unbelievable years. One of the main highlights was how she would hold cards for Calvert DeForest, otherwise known as Larry ‘Bud’ Melman.
