#139 Rebecca Cheung - Partners of prisoners in the UK (POPS)

Listen Later

Episode 139: Rebecca Cheung.

Rebecca Cheung is Communications & Training Coordinator at Partners of Prisoners in the UK.

POPS began as a peer support group for offenders’ families set up by Farida Anderson MBE in 1988, who was herself supporting her partner through a custodial sentence. Recognising that there was no formal support for prisoners’ relatives, POPS was established to help families cope with the stress and isolation experienced by this hidden group who are so often labelled ‘GUILTY by association’.

“It was about twenty years ago when I found myself in an impossible position, after my husband was given a prison sentence. I did not know what to do, who to tell or where to turn to for help. I put an advert in the local paper and set up a self help group for myself and other families who were trying to support someone in prison.”
