Jeff was born in Smithtown, New York, raised in Tampa Bay and received his business management degree from Saint Leo University. He and his wife, Cristina, have two daughters, Juliana and Jasmine, and reside in Tampa. Jeff serves on the board of Balanced Life Warriors, a not-for-profit that works with veterans suffering from PTSD, and is a past board member of the Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce. In 2018, he received second place in Florida Politics’ list of Best Lobbyists in Florida.

Welcome to the 18th episode of Amplify Clearwater Show, powered by 13th Ave Media! In this episode, we are featuring Scott Sousa, General Manager of Clear Sky on Cleveland!

Scott Sousa has been a highly successful restaurant operator/owner for over 30 years.  He cut his teeth working for TGI Friday’s in their heyday, running the busiest and most successful store in New England.  He won many awards including highest sales growth, lowest turnover and store of the year for over 300 restaurants.  He then took to his entrepreneurial side and partnered with a start-up restauranteur to open four upscale restaurants in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, called Roobar City Bistro.  Roobar became the most recognized restaurant group in the Cape Cod Area.  Again, they won many awards such as Best Mid-Cape Restaurant, Best Restaurant on Cape Cod, Wine Spectator Award for one of the “Best Wine Lists in the World”, Best Bar, and many more.  His Civic duties included being heavily involved in several Chambers of Commerce, heading up the Hyannis Merchants Association and President of the Mashpee Little League.  He was the driving force behind being awarded a state grant and building three new softball/baseball fields, two new soccer fields and one new football field, (with a 2 million dollar budget) all at no cost to the city.

Scott sold his businesses in 2007, and moved to Palm Harbor where he took over as the General Manager of a brand new, upscale steak house in Oldsmar.  Again, this restaurant was known to have outstanding reviews and one of the best wine lists in the area.  In November 2018 he went to work for Clear Sky Café, overseeing the beverage program while working at their Clearwater Beach location.  He took over the Cleveland St. store in 2019 and started to become involved in downtown activities.  He spear-headed a project for the company- during the COVID-19 Pandemic- ordering, organizing and handing out grocery packages to over 500 employees, five separate times.   He became a board member for the Downtown Clearwater Merchants Association in February of 2020 and took over as co-chair in August.  The DCMA took on a complete rebranding of Downtown Clearwater, and has been instrumental in developing “The District”.  He and his wife Stacey reside in Palm Harbor, his four children live in Upstate New York, he has three beautiful grandchildren and three dogs.  He is an avid golfer and a runner.

During the Clearwater Chalktober Fest, each participating business will be partnered with a local or visiting artist who will chalk a masterpiece in front of their establishment. Artists will begin their work on Thursday with the goal of a Saturday by noon completion for weekend enjoyment! October 1st – October 4th: South Clearwater Beach; October 8th – October 11th: Island Estates; October 15th – October 18th: Downtown Clearwater; October 22nd – October 25th: North Clearwater Beach (Stone Crab Weekend); & finally October 29th – November 1st: Central Clearwater Beach (Halloween Weekend). This is a leisurely event designed to attract customers to all participating businesses all weekend long.

After years of throwing caution to the wind and living on the edge as an adrenaline junkie, Woody finally stopped. No more chasing hurricanes to surf, no more 100-foot cliff dives, no more full contact Kung Fu in the ring in Miami. No more racing motorcycles and cars, no more trick skateboarding, no more rock, blues, and jazz bands. No more theater.

Looking around at his life one day at the ripe old age of 23 he realized he was the only obstacle in his way of making a success of himself. It was truly an epiphany.

Woody cut his hair, put on a tie and began to find out what honest, hard work will bring...incredible success!

He and his wife Kathy are the co-owners of Patrice & Associates, one of the largest recruiting firms in North America. While they are able to work nationally in scope, their enormous territory runs from Port Richey, Florida all the way down US 19 to Indian Rocks and all points in between including the City of Oldsmar. Woody is ecstatic to be back at work on a local platform as the last company he and his wife owned was national. He is very excited to be a part of AMPLIFY Clearwater.

The short story is that they sold their business after 10 years and had seller’s remorse before the deal was closed. Woody’s counsel contacted the buyer and said Woody wanted to buy the business back and they never did respond. It took all of 2 months to realize retirement was not for them. Muttering under his breath one day he said to his wife as he passed her in the hallway, “This retirement stuff stinks”, Kathy said, “I’m getting a job I can’t stand it.” And that’s how they came to decide that they worked together very well and wanted to purchase a business that would do good for others before they were rewarded which is how they ended up at Patrice & Associates.

Woody Helfand brings extensive sales leadership staffing, hospitality and senior leadership experience to the P&A team and makes him uniquely qualified to identify top talent for his nationwide clients. Woody is a Certified Executive Search Specialist.
