Welcome back to GotTechED the podcast this is Episode 117 called “14 EdTech Team Building Activities to Start the School Year”   In this episode, we’ll share 14 awesome ideas for team building activities that you can use to help start the school year right.  We’ll also discuss some of the edtech that take these activities to the next level.  This is another episode you don’t want to miss, check it out.

Segment 1: UpdatesSegment 2: Tech-Based Team Building Activities
  1. Paparazzi Game - students work in small groups to take photos of specific objects, people, scenes in your classroom and around the school.  They post their photos in a Google Slide deck or simply upload to a unique drive folder.  Make it specific to your subject area if you want.  Require students to dress up or act certain things out.  Set challenges that require them to talk to each other and ask around.
  2. QR quest

  5. Virtual Brown Bag with autodraw.com - Ss create a virtual brown bag with images of 5 things that are important to them.  Each student puts their 5 images on a different google drawing which the the teacher distributes randomly.  Students describe their images to the class and everyone discusses or votes who they think the bag belongs to
  6. Get to know your teacher and classmates Digital Escape the Room
  7. To Kill a Mockingbird ETR
  8. Lewis Dot Structures ETR
  9. Summer time show and tell with Google Maps - students have time to present and share with the class a google maps tour of some things they did over the summer (vacation, local, camps, etc).  Give them time to prepare coordinates for quick navigating when presenting
  10. G: A minute to win it 
  11. Team building challenges
  12. Boomwriter – Read, write, vote, repeat.  Students read the first chapter of story, then write what they think should happen next.  Then the student chapters are peer assessed and voted upon.  A winner is chosen, which becomes the next official chapter of the story.  The process starts again.
  13. Classroom graphs.
  14. Review/create graphs while learning about everyone in the classroom
  15. Trivia with Baamboozle - why baamboozle?  Gets kids talking face-to-face, although any of the game platforms would be great.
  16. A story/poster and a relay
  17. Guess the location with randomstreetview.com
  18. Dream catcher introductions: make a dream catcher with your interest.… have students visit each dream catcher and out their names next to similar interests
  19. Humans of New York story writing - Humans of New York began as a photography project in 2010.  The initial goal was to photograph 10,000 New Yorkers on the street, and create an exhaustive catalogue of the city’s inhabitants.  Show student groups a different random photo.  They work together to create a brief story based on the photo.  Read aloud afterwards if time permits.
