The February 2021 PETE Collaborative discussed recruitment and retention.
Overview: During this panel style session, participants will hear from panelists who have conducted research on and implemented strategies for recruiting preservice teachers into PETE programs. Panelists will introduce topics and participants will have the opportunity to add their input both verbally and through the chat function. Specific connections to the COVID-19 pandemic that frame recruitment will be discussed. Participants who are interested will be invited to stay at the end of the collaborative to continue the conversation more informally.
Discussion topics included: (a) Innovative approaches to recruiting and retaining students, (b) Recruiting students from diverse populations – Representation matters, and (c) Research related to recruitment in physical education.
