We have a an innate desire for an autonomous life. 

We see people who do this and think now that’s what I am talking about, that is really making it. They get to do what they want when they want. This is not always true but certainly the perception. 

When we consider the idea of being dependent upon no one let’s stay on the surface and talk about what we sometimes desire to get from others: Affirmation, Credit, Value

Paul is not talking about this. He is talking about living in such a way, that if your conditions would change you would not sit on your couch waiting for someone to rescue you.
