This week I have the absolute honor to sit down and talk extensively about the 12 arrow penetration factors with the man who started it all, Dr. Ed Ashby! If you have ever looked into building your own arrows, you have likely seen or heard the name Ashby. Dr. Ed Ashby is a legend in the archery hunting community for dedicating more than 27 years to the study of arrow performance and broadhead lethality.  Thanks to Dr. Ashby and his crew, his Natal Study helped legalize archery hunting in South Africa. Many sub-Saharan countries followed suit. The Natal Study was the definitive document used to successfully lobby for bowhunting legalization.

Often times, people hear "The Ashby Studies" or "The 12 Factors" and immediately think HEAVY ARROWS. I wanted to take the time to discuss each of the 12 factors and what they mean for arrow penetration and lethality. There is much more to be learned than just "shoot heavier arrows." All of the factors can be implemented into ANY arrow build for an immediate increase in performance.
