17:17 Podcast

If we're called to help the poor and needy, isn't socialism the answer?  Would Jesus be voting for this worldview today?

On this episode, we pose the question, "Was Jesus a socialist?"  We spend time defining socialism, a little history of the impact of socialism, and a breadth of Scripture to address whether or not this worldview is biblical.  There have been debates all over America in the evangelical church about which economic system is the best, and that's only been exacerbated during election season.  Our hope is that as you listen, you grow in a knowledge of God and his Word as well as helping you to see this topic from a biblical framework.

The 17:17 podcast is a ministry of Roseville Baptist Church (MN) that seeks to tackle cultural issues and societal questions from a biblical worldview so that listeners discover what the Bible has to say about the key issues they face on a daily basis. Is the Bible even history?  Doesn't modern science disprove the Bible?  How do we know if any of it is trustworthy?

On this episode, we establish our roots by answering the question, "How do we know the Bible is true?"  Many believe the Bible, but may not have a firm foundation on exactly WHY they believe the Bible, and we seek to answer that on this first ever episode of the 17:17 podcast.  We dig into Scripture, archeological evidence, and secular proof texts to show the validity of the Bible.

Advent calendars have a long history, but is it a good one? Is it okay to give kids toys/treats to teach them about Christmas? Do these calendars just distract from what Christmas is actually about?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the history of Advent and dig through a lot of Scripture about Jewish festivals and God’s role in ordaining those to see if the same might apply to Advent. We hope that as you listen to this, you are encouraged by the Scriptures so that you and your family can decide for yourselves whether Advent calendars are right for you!
