17:17 Podcast

Word of Faith, Name It and Claim It, Seed Faith, or Prosperity Gospel. A lot of different names for the same theology...but is it biblical?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the meaning of the prosperity gospel, some of its biggest leaders, and some of the history of the movement. Some of the biggest churches in America and the most well known preachers have prosperity theology, so we seek to define what it is and compare it to ALL of Scripture. We hope that as you listen, you will come away with a clearer understanding of why this theology is dangerous and why it is contrary to the Gospel of Jesus in many ways.

"God told me _________." Ever heard that before? What exactly does that mean? Does God still speak to us today? If so, how does he do it? Visions, dreams, prophecies?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the difference between general and special revelation and look extensively at examples of special revelation in Scripture. Now that the canon of Scripture is closed, how does God speak today? We hope that as you listen, you will have a more full picture of how to hear from God today and not be deceived by those who preach something different than we see in Scripture (sufficiency of Scripture is a big theme in this one!)

Melchiza-who?! You may not be familiar with Melchizedek, but this High Priest has an interesting story in Scripture that is quite connected to Jesus and our salvation.

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk about that Bible character, Melchizedek, who is seldom mentioned but quite important. We talk through the debate in Christianity about who exactly he was. Was he a picture of Jesus? Was he a pre-incarnate Christ? Does it even matter? These are the questions we seek to answer on this podcast.

One of the more dreaded 4 letter words out there: WORK. Most people complain about it, some people choose not to do it, and others do too much of it. Is it a blessing or a curse?!

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the biblical history of "work" and why we are called to work today, even if it isn't exactly what it could have been. We walk through a proper view of work in our every day lives as well as in the ministry of the Gospel to the world. Our hope is that as you listen, you will be encouraged to view your work through a different lens and would be encouragement for Christ to those around you!

A surprising debate out there today, but are various ministries (and pastor titles) actually biblical, or just an Americanized version of Christianity?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the biblical definition of pastor as well as the role of different people in the church. We also look through some biblical examples of different roles in the body of God's people, as well as some instruction about raising the next generation and why we believe youth ministries play an integral part in raising up the next generation to know God.

NFL or Sunday Church? AAU every weekend? FANTASY SPORTS?! What is a Christian to do?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and good friend of the show, Jordan Rossler, talk through what the Bible says about sports as well as how Christians should view them. Sports are so popular today, especially in America, and can teach a lot of great values to kids and adults alike, but what do we do when a love of sports goes too far? Our hope is that as you listen to two sports lovers, you can see some godly principles as well as some warning signs to look for in the sports world as it relates to our faith.

We know we're supposed to forgive others, but shouldn't they have to apologize first? Even if I've said I've forgiven them, what does that look like practically?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through what true biblical forgiveness looks like. We breakdown what God's forgiveness looks like and then jump into what it looks like practically for Christians to forgive others. We also dive into the consequences of bitterness and resentment and why its so important to let go of those feelings and live in freedom.

Can you be demon possessed? Would you even know if you were? Are demons still actually a thing today?

On today’s podcast, Pastor Derek and Pastor Jackie talk through the very real nature of demons in our world today. We look at their origin and look through Scripture to determine just how dangerous they actually are and whether we as Christians need to be fearful of them. We also look through some Scriptures that warn us of things to be on the look out for in the spiritual battles that we face everyday between the good and evil forces in this world, warring for our souls. We hope that you can walk away from this episode with a deeper understanding of the nature of demons so that you can be sure that you are in Christ and protected from their attacks.
