Stefansson's con-man laden pride produced multiple failed Arctic expeditions and was ultimately responsible for sending five people unprepared and underfunded with a quarter of the rations they would need on an expedition to Wrangel Island north of Siberia where all but the crew's seamstress, Ada Blackjack, would perish in the harsh conditions.
