1865: A View From The Forest 🔴⚪️ #nffc

Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz, Steven Toplis, the Maradona of the Midlands and Jeremy Davies, to discuss results, performances, injuries and the Reds’ business in the transfer window - how much has this been affected by finances?

Millwall put in a tactical masterclass in the first half, earning them three goals and three points. Forest were lacking in energy and pace, leading to the Lions exploiting the flanks, exposing the Reds’ full-backs and midfield, and enabling their giant striker Matt Smith to bully his way to a hat-trick.

A poor performance by Forest made a nervous Middlesbrough team look more likely to take the points. At least subs Joao Carvalho and John Bostock added some forward impetus and a foot on the ball, leading to Lewis Grabban’s impudent equaliser.

After a tricky run, Forest produced another one of those away performances, where they were in control for most of the match. Although they only got one goal from Tiago Silva, it should have been more and they looked defensively solid against a Cardiff team who had only lost once at home all season.

This was another chance missed against a team who have not been known for keeping clean sheets. The conditions made good football difficult, and many will point to the cruel nature of the game, as Joe Worrall’s goal was correctly ruled out due to a freak gust of wind moving the ball before Joe Lolley took the corner.

The match itself, and the post-match debate, was dominated by referee Keith Stroud; West Brom fans felt annoyed at the last gasp goal correctly disallowed for offside, and Forest supporters were raging at everything else that he did.

After the euphoria of Saturday’s six-pointer, we surely could have seen this coming. It was a horrible night for football, with a snow shower just before kick-off and a swirling, freezing cold wind throughout, and while we expected some players to be rested, five changes meant that the team lacked any kind of coherence.

The City Ground was rocking on Saturday evening as Forest outplayed Leeds United. Some tactical masterstrokes from Sabri Lamouchi kept the visiting defenders on their toes, and determination and desire from Joe Lolley set up Tyler Walker for a dream finish.

January was mostly a good month for Nottingham Forest, before the six-match unbeaten run was brought to an abrupt halt at Birmingham City. Rich Ferraro, Steven Toplis and the Maradona of the Midlands discuss victories, draws and defeats, Angry Sabri, and the Reds’ business in the transfer window.
