  • 1951 Down Place #034 – Sword of Sherwood Forest

Ho! Ha ha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! Thrust! It might help to imagine that the Down Placers are not wearing tights while listening to them discuss 1960’s Sword of Sherwood Forest (dir. Terence Fisher). Casey, Derek, and Scott can’t ever get enough Peter Cushing, but have they had enough of Robin Hood or Friar Tuck? Sproing!

  • 1951 Down Place #033 – Night Creatures

Dearly beloved we are gathered here in this house of worship to listen to the inspiring words of the good Reverend Dr. Blyss preach on the virtues of high stakes alcohol smuggling. That’s right, this month on 1951 Down Place we take a look at the 1962 film Night Creatures, staring Peter Cushing, Oliver Reed and Michael Ripper.

This episode also is part of the cross over podcast event with Disney, Indiana where Derek and Casey joined Scott and Tracey to talk about the film Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow. As complete this cross over, Tracey joins the Down Placers to talk about Night Creatures – wait, there’s a girl here? I just hope the boys straightened up…

  • 1951 Down Place – Special Crossover Episode – Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow

In this special crossover episode, Casey and Derek join Scott and his wife Tracey over at the Disney, Indiana podcast to talk about the 1963 live action Disney film Dr Syn: Alias the Scarecrow. Why are the Down Placers talking about this Disney film? Well, it along with Hammer’s Captain Clegg (a.k.a. Night Creatures) were both based upon the Dr. Syn novels of Russell Thorndike. In the upcoming episode 33 of 1951 Down Place, Tracey will join Casey, Derek and Scott to talk about Hammer’s take on the material.

Can the Down Placers survive a trip to Disney, Indiana? Will Casey and Derek long for the heaving, blood soaked, barely-restrained bosoms of a Hammer film after spending a little time in Mickey’s backyard? Tune in to find out!

Casey just turned 40, and for his birthday, he wanted to spend some quality time with Yutte Stensgaard . . . and Mike Raven’s widow’s peak. In this month’s episode of 1951 Down Place, Casey is joined by Derek and Scott to talk about the second of the loose trilogy of Karnstein films – Lust for a Vampire (dir. Jimmy Sangster). What do the Down Placers think of this film? Are they in “strange love” with it? Or are they taking away Casey’s birthday?

  • 1951 Down Place #029 – The Gorgon

The gang’s back! Terence Fisher, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Bernard Robinson, James Bernard, Casey Criswell, Derek M. Koch, and Scott Morris all return to 1951 Down Place to talk about Fisher’s 1964 film The Gorgon. Barbara Shelley and the legend of Medusa Megara round out a film that has your Down Placers talking about special make-up effects, facial hair, Lee-as-hero . . . a Disney film, an 80s television show, and a 70s film that has NOTHING to do with Hammer at all.

  • 1951 Down Place #028 – Cash on Demand

André Morell wants 97,000 pounds for Christmas. Does Father Christmas have him on the naughty or nice list? Check in with the Down Placers this month to find out! This month, Casey, Derek, and Scott take a look at the André Morell-Peter Cushing vehicle Cash on Demand (dir. Quentin Lawrence). This suspenseful Hammer film takes place just before Christmas, so we thought it was fitting to talk about it just after the holiday. Happy holidays form all of us here at 1951 Down Place! • 1951 Down Place #027 – The Devil Rides Out

Saddle up, partners! This month, the Down Placers take a look at the 1968 Hammer film The Devil Rides Out (dir. Terence Fisher). This film was also known as its supposedly-sounding-less-like-a-Western-title The Devil’s Bride when it was released in the US, but whatever the title, you won’t find anyone playing cowboy in this film. Instead, you’ll find Christopher Lee . . . playing the hero (even if he’s not wearing a white cowboy hat)! In addition to talking about the film, Casey, Derek, and Scott also respond to some listener feedback that’s been building up since last month. So mount up, and don’t look the monster in the eyes!

  • 1951 Down Place #026 – Scream of Fear

The management and staff of 1951 Down Place have been pledged to an oath of secrecy concerning the electrifying climax of this podcast. For maximum excitement, we earnestly recommend that you listen to this episode from the very start! The Down Placers – Casey, Derek and Scott – are back in the latest episode of 1951 Down Place with a look at 1961’s Taste of Fear, or how us yanks know it, Scream of Fear, directed by Seth Holt and written by Hammer’s go-to screenwriter Jimmy Sangster. The film stars Susan Strasberg, Ronald Lewis, Ann Todd, and Christopher Lee. Lee himself has been quoted as saying, “Taste of Fear was the best film that I was in that Hammer ever made.” Do the Down Placers agree? Well, let’s just say someone’s Top Five list might be changing when all is said and done!
