Well, one of the co-hosts up and joined the circus, putting our plans of Vampire Circus on hold for a month. But never fear, Scott and Derek are still around to bring you a very special episode of 1951 Down Place. First, Scott shares another interview he recorded during the October 2014 Monster Bash – with the beautiful Caroline Munro!
After the interview, Derek joins Scott to cover the feedback that has been piling up here at Down Place Central! They also cover the changes to the upcoming schedule of movies here on the show.
Casey will return next month – if he can drag himself away from the circus.

It’s time for the Down Placers to take a gander at another “Hammer Noir”. This time it’s 1953’s Bad Blonde (directed by Reginald Le Borg). Do the gentlemen of Down Place prefer this blonde and how far did one of them go to actually become a “bad blonde”? It’s time to touch up the roots as Casey, Derek and Scott find out if “bad blondes” have even more fun!

In October of 2014, Scott attended the Monster Bash convention in Mars, Pennsylvania and got the opportunity to sit down and interview a few famous ladies of Hammer.
The first interview We’d like to share with you is with Veronica Carlson, who has appeared in a few films for Hammer. She first appeared opposite Chrisopher Lee in 1968’s Dracula has Risen from the Grave – a film that we’ll cover later this year on 1951 Down Place. She also appeared with Peter Cushing in 1969’s Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed and in 1970’s The Horror of Frankenstein.

For Derek’s birthday pick, he selected the 1962 film The Phantom of the Opera (dir. Terence Fisher). It might be hard to believe, but when this film was released, there had only been a few film adaptations of the classic Gaston Leroux novel, so Hammer had a wide open playing field in regards to what they could bring to the table. Was the studio successful? We’ll find out as Casey, Derek, and Scott tackle this film.

It’s a very special time here at 1951 Down Place central as our intern Scott has celebrated another birthday this month. To honor this event, we’ve allowed Scott to pick the film to cover this month. Things are not quite what they seem as Scott’s choice shook the very foundations of 1951 Down Place.
Listen to this episode to find out if Derek and Casey can survive the shock to their system and triumph or will this film choice wreak its vengeance on the poor unfortunate souls who are forced to talk about it.

Well, it’s just one werewolf we saw this month, but what a werewolf! It’s Oliver Reed in Hammer’s 1961 film The Curse of the Werewolf (directed by Terence Fisher). Joining Oliver Reed in the cast is Clifford Evans, Yvonne Romain and 1951 Down Place favorite Michael Ripper.
Listen to find out if Derek, Casey and Scott get their lungs ripped out or enjoy a whiskey at Trader Vic’s while watching? Why whiskey? we don’t believe Oliver Reed would waste his time on piña coladas!

Come and knock on our door. The Down Placers have been waiting for you . . . so they can tell you about 1974’s Man About the House (dir. John Robins). This Hammer comedy spun out of the British sitcom of the same name, and if the set-up of the movie sounds familiar, you must be a John Ritter fan. Man About the House was the British television show that inspired the American sitcom Three’s Company, and in this episode of 1951 Down Place, Casey, Derek, and Scott talk about the similarities between this film and that TV show, as well as the lack of similarities between this movie and every other Hammer film discussed on 1951 Down Place so far.

tri*an*gle (noun): a shape that is made up of three lines and three angles.
It looks like someone at 1951 Down Place has failed basic studies as our mathematically challenged hosts Casey, Derek, and Scott attempt to be acute in their review of 1953’s Four Sided Triangle. Can our hosts do right by this triangle and give equilateral critiques or will they be oblique and differ on the reviews of this trigonometric conundrum?
