The first sighting, known as the Richmond School sighting happened in Napier, NZ on May 7, 1970 being witnessed by 400 school children along with several staff members. The second sighting comes from Kaikoura, NZ and happened on January 1, 1979. This encounter was witnessed by airport staff, multiple pilots and was recorded in real time by a local news crew.
