December 15th, 1995 was a typical winter night in Utah. Cold. In fact, bitter cold, especially in the resort town of Midway which is nestled in the middle of the Wasatch Mountain Range.
But that night a young 17 yr old girl, Krystal Beslanowitch, was scared enough to jump out of a vehicle where she and a man were having sex, and run hundreds of meters to escape him. She was wearing nothing but a pair of socks.
Sadly, the man caught up to her and brutally beat her to death with several river rocks, then left her bloody body laying unceremoniously by the banks of the Provo River.
A farmer and his son found the body the next morning. 911 was called and the responding deputy, Todd Bonner, began the investigation that would span 18 years.
Deputy Bonner eventually became Sheriff Bonner, and despite a change in responsibilities he never forgot Krystal, nor did he ever give up. Eventually technologies were developed that enabled the investigators to not only identify those that were the last to be with Krystal, but also the man who gripped the rocks that ended her life.
In this episode we take to you the crime scene, hear from Sheriff Bonner and ADA McKay King - who helped prosecute the murderer Joseph Simpson - and give you a first hand accounting of the crime.
