You won't find her name in the NCAA record books, nor has she donned a USA jersey to play in the Olympics.
But, those competitions pale in comparison to the battle that former Iowa Women's Basketball athlete, Lindsey "Niner" Nyenhuis fought and won.
Student-athletes face physical stress, practice and game commitments, strict schedules, and the expectations of coaches, faculty, family, and friends. These pressures can affect relationships, sport performance, academics, work, and life. What most don't realize is that suicide is the third-leading cause of death for NCAA student-athletes.
Add in undiagnosed ADHD and you have a recipe with potential long-term deadly effects.
In her first time sharing her story in public, Lindsey reveals the silent struggle she went through for years and how her tough athletic mindset pushed her through some of her darkest moments, until it became too much to handle.
If you are an athlete, coach, or parent of an athlete please listen to Niner's message and learn how you can detect the silent calls for help in someone you love.

I'm making a countermove from my usual interview style episodes.
We lost the lynchpin of our family this week, BJ Featherston, or as we call him, Uncle Blue, passed away on Sunday January 31st.
If you didn't know him, then you missed out. He wasn't a nationally known name, nor was he famous, although he could certainly be dubbed infamous by some!
In the true spirit of this podcast, Uncle Blue was GRIT personified.
We can all learn valuable lessons from his life.
There is a saying that God doesn't call the qualified, but he does qualify the called. BJ was definitely qualified to teach us all how to life with passion, laugh with your friends, and love your family.
I hope you'll take a few minutes to listen to the impact he had on our family, his friends and his community, it is an impact that will last well beyond his lifetime.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode - if you feel moved please rate and write a review!
