We close out our Ben Affleck 2003 trilogy with the sci-fi action thriller Paycheck! How does this stack up against the other 2003 Affleck films? Does he have chemistry with Uma Thurman in this movie? Why does Uma Thurman work with plants? Is this secretly an adventure puzzle video game? Then we play our version of 2003 Ben Affleck Oscars awards.
Fallon, Fey, Dratch, Parnell, Rudolph, Poehler, Armisen, Forte, Meyers, Thompson. Everyone has their own preferred era of SNL but these are some of the 2003 cast members of Saturday Night Live. We watch many episodes and many sketches... some misses and some hits. We discuss hosts, terrible racial jokes, and if SNL is still relevant. Then we play a (belated) 2003 Stars March Madness bracket to crown our favorite thing we've covered so far!
Another album episode! This time we cover Modest Mouse's Good News for People who Love Bad News. This was another formative album for Jeff and he recently got to see Modest Mouse in concert for the first time. We also listen to 5 o'clock somewhere (Jimmy Buffet), reptilia (The Strokes), are you gonna be my girl (Jet), and cherry (Harry Styles). It's a fully packed musical episode!
We are observing 4/20 this year by discussing the classic stoner comedy from 2002, Super Troopers with our first return guest, Ethan Graham! This movie seems to be ubiquitous among our age group since it was played on Comedy Central constantly. But how does it stack up against the best stoner comedies of our time? We also play a game of stoner comedy Jeopardy! Enjoy!
We have our first book club topic and read the 2003 bestseller The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. This book changed Dan Brown from relative unknown author to household name second only to Harry Potter in 2003. We discuss the merits and criticisms of this book, then Jeff runs through some real-life treasure hunts and we play a game of mystery and thriller Jeopardy!
We simply couldn't cover 2003 without talking about the timeless Amy Sherman-Palladino hit, Gilmore Girls. And we talk about it with one of the best people, Megan Trevoy! Elizabeth, Semira, and Megan school Jeff on all things Gilmore and we end with a competitive draft of our favorite things from the series!
We cover the huge 2003 Pixar animated hit, Finding Nemo with the wonderful Chris Trevoy. We talk about Chris' affinity for the film and what it meant to him and his family. Finally, we play a round of naming Oscar-nominated animated films!
If you have a second, check out the Lucky Fin Project at luckyfinproject.org !
What is a model? What makes a model good? How does someone become an international Supermodel? Well we watched the first season of America's Next Top Model hosted by Tyra Banks which premiered in 2003. We discuss the competition aspects, the contestants, and Tyra herself. Then we play a game of naming the top 20 models who have achieved 'legend' status.
Oh boy... this is our second installment of our Ben Affleck 2003 trilogy and it is one of the worst movies we've seen in a while. Listen to us discuss how this disaster happened and exactly all the scenes we hated in this movie. Finally, we play another edition of Name that Movie, box-office flop themed!
We discuss the extremely fantastic Queen Latifah in the extremely troubling 2003 comedy, Bringing Down the House. Spoiler: we do not recommend anyone watch this movie. Steve Martin is a low-light in the film, but it was fun to see 2003-era Eugene Levy. We end the episode with another edition of Guess that film, Black director edition!
