Retired Cumberland County Schools Superintendent Bill Harrison came in to visit his long time friend Gilbert, and they talked about basketball and, his years with CC Schools. After leaving Cumberland County in 1988 to serve in several school leadership positions, he returned in August 1997 as Superintendent of the Cumberland County Schools, the fourth largest school system in North Carolina and the 72nd largest in the nation.

Rocio Serna, the Coordinator for Methodist University's Military & Veteran Services. She splits her time at the Military & Veterans Center right here on the MU campus, and at Fort Bragg where MU has had an office for years. She's a second-generation American who joined the Army in 2004 and it didn’t take long before she was sent to Afghanistan as an aviation aircraft refueler under Operation Enduring Freedom in 2006. In 2014, she took a leap of faith and enrolled at Methodist University in 2014. While juggling bills and being a mother to three children, Serna managed to excel and earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a concentration in Clinical Counseling in 2018.

Dr. Jennifer Green, Director of the Cumberland County Department of Public Health (CCDPH), has been selected by a panel of judges as the recipient of the 2025 American Medical Association Award for Outstanding Government Service in the Career Public Service at the State or Local Level category. Dr. Green was nominated for this prestigious award by Commissioner Glenn Adams.

Mayor Mitch Colvin, a native of Fayetteville, has a passion for helping to improve the City and its citizens. He was elected in November 2017 as the City's longest serving African-American mayor and is currently serving his fourth term. Prior to that, he served two consecutive terms as a city council member for District 3 from 2013-15 and as Mayor Pro Tem from 2015-17.In 1995, at the age of 21, Mr. Colvin assumed the operational leadership of Colvin Funeral Home, Inc. He still leads the operation of Colvin Funeral Home and Crematory today, helping residents in their time of need. Mr. Colvin learned at an early age that being in business is not easy and over the last 20 years he has worked hard to build a strong, community-oriented business, restore goodwill and address remaining legacy issues. Today his company is a market leader in funeral home service calls. He believes that hard work and commitment in the face of adversity is crucial to survival in business and in life.
