Alfa Romeo might be best known for its Formula 1 presence, or its sporty convertibles that help stop weddings in major motion pictures. Unfortunately, the two-seat cabriolet isn’t exactly helping major automakers keep their lights on. Steering into the meat of the market, the folks at Alfa Romeo launched a sub-compact crossover dubbed Tonale. The Tonale might not be as exciting as its larger Stelvio sibling, or the long list of sporty Alfas of yesteryear, but it does help spread the brand’s awareness and give shoppers something different in a sea of crossovers. Powering the Tonale is exclusively a plug-in hybrid powertrain that blends a 1.3-liter I4 with a hybrid system to send 285 hp to the wheels.
