Illness causes Jeff to be held back in school and he suffers ridicule. Then the grandfather he loves dies. Family moves to the South where his accents brings Jeff ridicule. As a teenager, he drinks, smokes pot, works for uncle. Parents kick him out for drunkenness and irresponsibility.
