We talk with Neal Gabler about his book, "Catching the Wind: Edward Kennedy and the Liberal Hour, 1932-1975." Neal explains how Ted Kennedy's beginnings were different from his famed brothers, partly because their personalities were different, but also because they grew up during different times altogether. He explains how one of the most effective and longest-serving senators of all time started in politics, but also how the politics of the moment shaped him. In this first of two volumes, Gabler describes how Kennedy "rode the wind" of an America dominated by liberal political thought. Kennedy's efforts were shaped by a big-hearted America, and aimed at helping those who needed help because, as Gabler says, it was the right thing to do. Neal's second volume will be released next year, which is titled, "Against the Wind." He has already promised to join us for a discussion on that book!
