In this conclusion Mavis and Dudley adopt a daughter. She continues to have seizures and pain from her lupus. Once she pulls her own tooth because they have no money for a dentist. Then she is diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Chemotherapy fails, so they attempt a bone marrow transplant, which is horrific but seems to succeed. The cancer returns and she refuses additional treatment. She trusts in God to the end.
