A lady named Plectrude, who is a member of the Carolingians and resides in Cologne, is the most powerful woman in the Frankish Empire and its secret ruler from 714-717. She has gone down in the history books as the founder of the church in Cologne and as the stepmother who had her stepson Charles Martel thrown into prison.
