Deb and Dick meet at church and he tells how his grandparents raised him. Twenty-nine-year-old Dick has just learned to drive and has no job but has been saved for two years. Possessive Granddad tries but fails to prevent their marriage. When he dies, Granddad leaves everything to Dick, who goes to Bible college. After graduation Dick and Deb serve in a rescue mission that closes after five years. While on vacation, Dick falls down stairs and suffers a severe head injury. He has three operations and slowly improves; but Deb now speaks for him. She learns to let go of bitterness.
