Tillie grows up feeling unloved and marries four different men searching for love. Each husband is wrong for her. She makes bad decisions based on emotions instead of facts and leaves them out of fear. Her first daughter is born out of wedlock but her second husband adopts the girl. Tillie has several nervous breakdowns and lives mostly on welfare, turning to her sister and husband for help from time to time. Finally, she goes home. Her oldest daughter receives Christ at 21. Seeing the joy, Tillie calls a pastor who tells her the gospel and she prays for salvation.
