In this episode, we get a chance to talk to one of Buffalo’s very own Wil Rogers of Abstract Illism. He lets us in on what helped he and his partners grow this brand independently and what drives the ideas behind it. On that journey we talk about so many different tangents, that there is certainly something for everyone!
Innovative. Urban. Authentic.
Abstract Illism is a lifestyle boutique and retail establishment based in Buffalo, NY. We take pride in the high-quality comfort and ease of our pieces, but this line is more than just clothing—It’s a chance for Black creators to reclaim streetwear fashion that’s been exploited by outsiders profiting off our communities.
Urban culture is easy to love but difficult to understand. Young Black artists from poor neighborhoods have always been natural trendsetters. They transform the clothes off their back and inspire high fashion runways. Foreign designers love the look. They try to replicate the vibes. But they never credit the original creators. Abstract Illism will redefine this urban influence.
abstract, adjective /abˈstrakt,ˈabˌstrakt/ Existing in thought or as an idea but not having a physical or concrete existence.
Illism, adjective /il,izəm/ The universal language of vibes
Rashaad Holley, founder of Abstract Illism, grew up on Buffalo’s east side. He didn’t have much, but was always inspired by the leading fashion houses. He took this calling and studied apparel design after getting a degree in business. He’s shown in numerous shows and even learned from designers across seas. But in order to push culture forward, he’s embracing his creativity and going back to his roots. Because he knows real streetwear should come from the streets.
