Welcome to National Recovery Month, I know your probably saying what’s that??? Thanks to the media’s priorities, the general public would not know about this annual public announcement, which is outlandish considering 1 out of every 4 teenagers drink alcohol, smoke weed or knows someone who does, and are using other illicit drug both legal and not. 

So is there really a need to discuss the problem? Or are we ready to start learning practical approaches that will work? 

Join us on the couch and in the classroom this month as we share some light on frequently asked questions recognizing when my child is using drugs verses is my man or woman an addict? The term addict has been tossed around so much its now void of value and meaning, like the word love. Do we really know what an addict is? 

These next couple of weeks will be exciting, informative, and empowering as we will uncover myths about addiction, and give away as many tools as we possibly can in a 4 weeks.  We will hear powerful live testimonies from families who have been affected by drug use and addiction, and from addicts who are now in recovery living a drug free lifestyle.

Is there a correlation between  MEN who have children with  multiple women and MEN who are starving for affection from their mother? According to Psychology Today, "Emotional hunger is not love. It is a strong emotional need  caused by deprivation in childhood." Feelings of emotional loss is linked to  a deep and dull feeling that cause people to seek physical affection and attention in order to fill a void. 

There is often confusion between emotional loss and LOVE. Many times there lies the need to be reassured and the strong desire to be dependent on someone. When there is a lack of affection in the home, especially from parents this can cause severe psychological development. Parents who are affectionate and attuned with nurturing their children, especially young men, often create secure, attached, and affectionate young adults. There is also a correlation of how too much attention, over-bearing,and affection from the parent's, usually because of their starvation for affection,can cause harm to young men's self and comfort.\

We will talk with experts in the field and of course parents who will share their stories and experiences raising Young Men and answer the question How Much is TOO much Affection and Attention? We will discuss how a parent who is capable of giving Love and Affection to their children and also able to set clear boundaries between them often produces independently whole adults.

 

We posted a flyer late last week in regards to GIRLS Self-Esteem and how to teach young men how to respect our young ladies. There were several Likes and Comments shared in regards to young women have to learn how to dress appropriately, how to respect themselves, and follow instructions in regards to dress code, etc. There were also comments made towards how young men should be taught to treat young ladies regardless of clothing or behavior.

 

This week we want to talk about ways we can help learn to respect our bodies, and one another. It is important that we offer tools and guidelines on how to create Self-Confidence, Self-Respect, and Self-Esteem. Many adults may not be aware of where to start or how to encourage each other without feeling frustrated or overwhelmed with all of the other obstacles and distractions we face today that guide and change the positive messages in our homes, communities, and churches.

Is it worth it to say:

"I can't afford to buy healthy foods"

"I can't stop eating fast foods/processed foods/sugar"

Wouldn't it be more logical to choose foods that are medicinal and not poisonous? Every time you say "I Can't" you make a decision saying " I will not."

Why does it seem like mothers did more in preparing their daughters for puberty, and not so much for the second change in a woman’s life called menopause?  Even as adults, the most women may say out loud is the acknowledgment of just hot flashes. This narrow view perpetuates the ignorance of younger women to believe hot flashes will be the worst of this aging process, whereas no more menstrual cycles will be the celebration to many years of anatomic torture.  Therefore, we are ill prepared for the up and down mood swings, the constant irritability, low tolerance, loss of memory, inability to concentrate, and confusion over the most basic things in everyday life.  The drastic changes in eating and sleep patterns along with changes in physical appearance (mostly by weight gain) begin to diminish what was once a healthy self esteem.  The most baffling symptom of these listed would be the high sex drive that tries to come out through all these and other barriers too much to list.

Women start to become recognized by society as a Cougar, Mom gone crazy, divorcee, depressed, neurotic, angry, bitchy etc. In histories past, doctors called this stage of life  “the lonely wife syndrome.” Unfortunately doctors today sometimes misdiagnose this stage and simply label woman as depressed or having an anxiety disorder. It’s also unfortunate that the health profession minimizes this female experience as a hormonal imbalance that can simply be rectified by hormone replacement therapy. The latter has been linked to cancer, which made the issue so crippling that it’s just not talked about among women, who have taken to suffering in silence.

Many times we believe if" I could just hit the lottery" all y problems would disappear. WRONG!!!! Many people are often inpositions of power and money however, if your mentality is not matching you will not be acle to keep it or sustain it. It is important that we discuss how MONEY plays many roles and factors in our lives. How what we think subconsciously comes out in ways we never imagine and how we continue to perpetrate and pass down beliefs and thought patterns for generations.

Can we tolerate our different opinions on same sex marriage?

The United States has made history once again by making same sex marriage legal in all fifty states. Many people have their opinions on if it is right or wrong for people of the same sex to get married. Can we tolerate others opinions if it is not the same as ours?

There are about 9 million LGBT adults in the United States. 251,695 same-sex marriages happened in 2013. 60% of Americans support gay marriage. 22% of same-sex couples raise adopted or foster children. The younger generations express higher levels of support for same sex marriage. 

With these statistics there is evidence that same-sex couples are being accepted more and becoming more frequent. However, there are people that do not support same sex marriage. Most of the people that do not support chose not to because of religious beliefs or political beliefs. These people are sometimes viewed as homophobic or judgmental. Does one person’s dislike or disagreement on this matter deserve to be tolerated by others or not? It is all a matter of personal opinion and respect.
