302: Great White Hope or White Elephant? (re-run)

Listen Later

This episode is a re-run of a previous podcast. This
summer I am teaching a research reading seminar class at George Mason. It’s an
online master’s class for practicing health and physical educators as a part of
our 100% online masters program. This summer, I am launching episodes that I
assign in that class.  So part of the
class is reading articles, and then part of the class we listen to the expert
talk about their research on this podcast. These are all episodes that have
launched previously, so maybe you’ve heard them…but, I know there’s a lot of
content on this podcast and these are all great podcasts! I hope you enjoy
them! And I will be back in mid August with an awesome podcast about the state
of PETE in the USA with Dr. Phil Ward!

We discuss his 2014 paper on models based practice in physical education. A good conversation to the question: are models the great white hope or a white elephant? This paper is Dr. Casey's 2nd highest cited article and has been read widely. Dr. Casey continues to publish and conduct research on this topic and has more recent papers out discussing models. We wanted to highlight this paper first as it provides a great overview of models and can lay the foundation for future podcasts on this topic.
