Championship Scenarios

Marshall Pruett in Racer Magazine spelled out the title-clinching scenarios for each driver. Newgarden has to finish 5th or better without any bonus points, even with a Rossi victory and no bonus points for Rossi. If Rossi takes the pole and leads the most laps then Newgarden has to finish 4th or better.

Outside of that, you can surely count on the trusted POINTS AS THEY RUN graphic to be shown throughout the race.

Indy Pro 2000 - Kyle Kirkwood vs. Rasmus Lindh

No Hashtag battles here. Just 2 racers looking to make it into Indy Lights in 2020. Kirkwood leads Lindh by 20 points heading into the final weekends two races. Kirkwood posted a video of the opening laps at Worldwide Technology Raceway at Gateway recently. A race that may have saved the championship for Kirkwood.

Episode 9

Christian Rasmussen, Driver of the #6 Jay Howard Driver Development entry in the USF2000 Series on the Road to Indy joined The Earl from Orlando Florida following his weekend of racing at Portland International Raceway.

Christian currently sits 5th in the season championship standings heading into the final two races of the campaign at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

We recap the two races in Portland which saw Rasmussen turn in a podium finish in race 1 after starting 5th and rally back from a tire issue in race 2 by setting fast lap of the race on lap 18.

In 2018, Christian finished third in the F4 US Championship with the most victories by any driver during the year. He has followed up his stint in F4 with a strong showing in USF2000.

Christian is backed by the Danish Federation and Dansk Metal and is excited to see what 2020 has in store for his racing career.

He started in go-karts at the age of 5 in Denmark. It was a natural step considering that his father was involved in the automotive industry. We talk about the opportunities that he had in Europe and how he has made his racing budget stretch in the United States and how he enjoys living and competing stateside.

Part of that allure stateside is the Indy 500. Christian got to experience the race first hand this year and it was a spectacle that he will never forget.

Now that Christian has finished his business degree in Denmark he is dedicating more of his time towards racing and fitness and preparing himself for not only Laguna Seca, but the racing that is available after that race and heading into next season.

Take away a few, as Christian put it, unlucky incidents during the 2019 USF2000 campaign and he would be right in the hunt for a season podium finish position of 3rd. Instead, he will have to focus on trying to catch Colin Kaminsky for 4th in the final 2 races.

It will be interesting to see him make the progression through the Road to Indy ladder. I hope we see him in 2020 stateside, either in a USF2000 car competing for the season championship or progression to the Indy Pro 2000 or Indy Lights level.

Episode 8 - 33 Dreams of Indy

I met Kory Enders at Worldwide Technology Raceway at Gateway prior to his race on the Oval in the Indy Pro 2000 Series. Kory is an engaging driver on the Road to Indy Series.

I caught up with Kory from his condo in Austin, TX. During this interview, we recap his weekend with DEForce Racing in Portland that saw him finish 11th and 10th in the two weekend races.

We reflect on Kory's podium finish on the oval at Gateway and the emotions that went along with that experience and how a driver works to recreate that feeling outside of the car.

We also look ahead to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and discuss how Kory uses the iRacing Simulator to familiarize himself with the new track. Setting the right expectations entering the weekend has been something that he has been working on, especially after the weekend experience of testing and competing at Gateway.

Episode 7 - A conversation with Colin Kaminsky - Driver of the #23 Pabst Racing - Slick Locks entry in the USF2000 Series presented by Cooper Tires.

I caught up with Colin after he had finished a full week of classes at the University of Pittsburgh where he is studying Business Administration.

Kaminsky currently sits 4th in the USF2000 season standings after posting two solid 4th place finishes at Portland International Raceway.

We talk about the race weekend at Portland. The season points championship and we look ahead to the challenge of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Colin has to be ready for the last two races of the season as he finds himself just 4 points out of 3rd place, only trailing Darren Keane in the standings. While he looks to challenge Keane, he also has to be aware of Christian Rasmussen that is right on his heels, just 12 points behind.

After finishing 10th in the 2018 standings, Kaminsky has shown great improvement this season running for Pabst Racing. His teammate, Hunter McElrea is currently leading the points by 6 points and we talk about having Hunter as a teammate and the challenge presented by chasing a successful team like Cape Motorsports.

I think you will find Colin to be as engaging as I did. We also touch upon the challenges of balancing racing with college classes and time management.

We even through in a little hockey talk as Colin is a High School and College hockey goaltender. Thankfully he is a Chicago Blackhawks fan and has not started rooting for the Penguins yet, even though he is in Pittsburgh for school. Jack is well on his well to making a name for himself on the Road to Indy and I trust this interview will help you get to know him a bit more.

The Road to Indy is made up of three open-wheel racing series that provide a road map for a young driver to move from local and regional karting into the IndyCar Series.

The Series is set up as a ladder system, very similar to the way that the Major League Baseball Farm System is set up with a Major Leagues, Triple A, Double A and Single A.

Drivers start in the USF2000 Series. For many drivers, this is their first experience running a car with front and rear wings similar to an NTT IndyCar Series car.

The mid-level is Indy Pro 2000. These cars have greater power than the USF2000 cars.

The top level of the Road to Indy Series is called Indy Lights. Indy Lights is the stepping stone to the IndyCar Series. The Indy Light car is the closest the driver will get to driving an actual IndyCar, power-wise, suspension wise and also feature a push to pass system.

Because all three series run on the same tracks as the NTT IndyCar Series, the drivers gain valuable experience for IndyCar that they would not be able to obtain on other venues or series. Also, the close proximity to the Major League IndyCar Teams on a race weekend allows the stars of the Road to Indy series to shine in front of their future employers.
