Host: Dr. Tara Egan
Co-host: Anna, teen daughter
Tara and Anna welcome a terrific guest today, Faith Dulin, MA, LMFT. Faith is the owner of Harmony Psychotherapy in Charlotte, NC and joins the conversation to talk about healthy relationships and establishing boundaries. The subject is a two-fold, one it is important for parents to set healthy boundaries in their own lives AND be a role model and guide their children to set healthy boundaries in their lives.
We started off by explaining what boundaries are:
to use a conceptual approach, Faith likes to describe it as if you drew a circle, everything in your circle is inside of your control and responsibility (your actions, feelings, reactions, decisions, emotions) everything outside of the circle, is outside of your control and responsibility of other people (their feelings, actions, reactions, wants, needs, emotions).
As a parent you want to communicate expectations and support your kid in maintaining their responsibility of fulfilling those expectations and having accountability. Faith is so much fun and shares some great, practical tips for all of you parents out there, check this episode out!
