40 Going On 14

All four of us are geeks, but not in the traditional sense. Although we do love to eat chicken.  On this first episode of our #Oscars2021 month, we're talking about the original 1947 '#Nightmare Alley' starring Tyrone Power and comparing it to the brand new re-telling by Guillermo del Toro!

This film has everything from noir, to freakshows, to murder, mayhem and mysticism! Grab yourself a bucket of chicken, your Bradley Cooper fan club shirt and your official Oscar statue reproduction filled with chocolate. We're taking a detour down 'Nightmare Alley'!

Rob from the rich and give to the poor, they said. It'll be fun, they said. Little did they know, he had a spoon. Why? Because it will hurt more!

That's right, we're submitting ourselves to the majesty of Kevin Costner in this all-out battle royale vs Taron Egerton. This week, 40 Going On 14 is heading to Sherwood Forest to hang out with the Robin Hoods.

Grab your Little John and buckle up, this might get a little explosive. Let's get our classic tale of good against evil on. Tally ho!

Hey, who was that one guy in that thing? You know, the one with the robots and George Lucas?

If you've ever played this game, then this week's show is right up your gazoo! We're discussing those icon faces and putting names behind them as we take on character actors from sci-fi and fantasy films!

Peter Stormare, John Rhys-Davies and Keith David, just to name a few. They may not be the lead actor, but they more often than not, steal the show. Tuck in and let's talk about character actors! Bleep bloop!

What’s so wonderful about a little sugar, fat and salt? Why does it make us feel so happy and content? Is it that the foods that contain these little serotonin bullets are just delicious or is it that they’re tied to things in our lives that make us feel warm and fuzzy inside. This week, we’re going to find out.

It’s the comfort food show! We’re discussing all the delightful delectables that defy description and make us smile. Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh have pulled out their recipe cards from childhood to now and are reviewing the coffee stained memories to find out what foods truly deserve the title of their favorite comfort foods.

Meatloaf, fried chicken and pies, oh my! This may be the first episode where you can actually hear someone gaining weight. If you don’t believe me, take a listen right now! It’s the comfort food show!

It’s that time again! That time when we prove that we’re either the old guys yelling out clouds or the old guys who yelling with the clouds. That’s right, it’s the Billboard show!

Every year, we patiently wait for this show and now that all of the Christmas music has finally vanished, it’s time to shake our groove thing. Will Doja Cat be back? How many Elton John and  Ed Sheeran songs will be on the charts? If you want to find out, then you’ll have to tune in!

Pull up a comfy recliner and get you some snacks. It’s the biggest and best show of the year. Tune in, as it’s Billboard or bust!

20 years of Harry Potter. It’s hard to believe that our little wizards are all grown up now! Join Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh as we take a trip through the wizarding world and examine this juggernaut of a franchise. With such amazing names as Alan Rickman, Daniel Radcliffe, Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, Gary Oldman and so on and so on.

HBO has released a tribute to the series they’ll we’ll navigate our way through as we discuss which houses, we are all a part of, as well as our favorite characters, films and a certain Twitter feed.

It’s a Hagrid sized show, that only a house elf would dare to miss, unless he had been first given a sock. This week, ’40 Going On 14’ is taking a trip to Hogwarts’s with wands, wizards and whomping willows. It’s going to get "Riddikulus"!

#Redpill or #bluepill?

What about that mythical brown pill?

If you are still plugged into ‘The #Matrix’ then you may be confused as to what our recent episode will be covering. If not, then welcome to the real world.

We all had our lives changed in 1999, when the original ‘Matrix’ film came out of nowhere and changed the modern landscape of action and science fiction films forever. It was a magical period of bullet time, wire work and Keanu’s transition to being a breathtaking legend.

With the recent release of ‘The Matrix #Resurrections’, we had to revisit a film that we never thought we’d see another sequel for. This is a deep dive back into the mythology and magic of a modern masterpiece and how it compares to its contemporary counterpart. Let’s plug back into ‘The Matrix’!

Can you believe it? We did it! 400 episodes and counting. That’s a difficult task that has been well worth completing. It’s hard to believe, but here we are.

To commemorate this momentous occasion, we’re changing things up and getting loose! We’ve tasked you, the listener, to provide us with questions. Things that wouldn’t make a whole episode or questions that you didn’t get answers too previously or just random stuff that you want to know!

We’re spending an entire show dedicated to what YOU want and having a dang good time doing it. If you’ve been with us since day one or are a brand new listener or anything else in between, thank you! We love all of you and appreciate your continued support as we blaze a trail towards our next 400 shows.

Excelsior!

3, 2, 1.... Let's jam. How could we not start the new year, without talking about this show? An anime that ranks up there as one of the greatest of all time and now it's a live action remake on Netflix. It's our perfect formula for this show.

Spike, Faye and Jet are cruising the galaxy in search of the biggest bounty. Joined by Ein and Ed, what could go wrong? If you haven't figured it out by now, we're discussing 'Cowboy Bebop'! The child of Hajime Yatate, this anime is now being brought to life by John Cho, Daniella Pineda and Mustafa Shakir.

We're going to take a trip on the Bebop and find out if this bounty pays off big or if it's just a big bust. Saddle up with Punch and Judy and let's head for the skies! See you space cowboy....

We’re back, baby and we’re letting the spice flow like wine. After much time in the desert of hiatus, Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh have returned and they’re ready to take on Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune’!

In 1984, David Lynch attempted to slay this monster of a sci-fi story. He brought along his friends Kyle MacLachlan, Sting and a whole lot of sandworms. In 2021, Denis Villeneuve is attempting the same thing, but with 99.9% less MacLachlan.

If you’re into watching Patrick Stewart stabbing at things, Sting in a codpiece, Jason Momoa being awesome or Zendaya squinting, then ‘Dune’ may be your holy grail of films. Pull out your spice rack and prepare for war, as ’40 Going On 14’ is heading to Arrakis for our ‘Dune’ show!
