At the height of the roaring '20s, Sweden's Kreuger made a fortune raising money in America and loaning it to Europe in exchange for matchstick monopolies. While he was world-known and considered one of the richest and most successful businessmen, his scandals came to light after his suicide. He created tax havens out of shell companies, fudged numbers, and committed outright fraud. When his Wall Street empire collapsed, millions went bankrupt and its estimated he lost over 2 billion dollars, more than Sweden's national debt at the time
