US automakers retreated from EVs along with that nation's retreat to fossil fuels - but the move will only serve to take the American automakers out of the future of automobiles, says Lindley.

They pivoted to E-REVs (Extended Range EVS) as the answer to EV price and range anxiety.

But lower-priced, longer-range EVs are already hitting the market, and when combined with battery price drops and innovation elsewhere, the future of E-REVs may be doomed.
