The Mayors of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns, and Whitsundays have written to the Premier to enforce a 'bed tax' for tourists visiting Queensland. 

 This is not a new idea, as many countries around the world are taxing tourists.

Sofie Formica said on 4BC Afternoons, "But in my mind the visitor levy should not be viewed as a punishment."

"In a nutshell, if we want tourism to thrive for generations we need the funds to do that, and this is a smart and sensible step forward," Sofie continued.

Several of Australia's largest superfunds have been the target of a cyberattack. 

It has been revealed that AustralianSuper, Rest, and Insignia were affected, with stolen passwords used to target members' accounts.

9News has confirmed that at least four AustralianSuper customers had funds stolen in the attack, with losses believed to be in the "low hundreds of thousands."

Queensland's state government fines will increase by 3.5% in the next financial year.

The government is expected to raise $912 million by 2025-26, while over $110 million in 100,000 unpaid mobile phone fines alone are outstanding.

Today, the Queensland Attorney-General announced more pokie machines needed in regional communities. 

This strategy is a pre-election promise to ensure that community clubs and pubs can continue operating in rural communities.

The most epic proposal has been achieved by a Brisbane man who rented the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil.

Cooper Weldon told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons, "It was definitely very special."

"I guess it all started back when we were talking about her wanting me to propose, and I guess we talked about what requests she had. And one of those was that she didn't want it anywhere in public with lots of people around."

"I thought it could be really cool to actually do it in a super public place, but to make it private and just intimate with just us," Mr Weldon continued.

The Fair Work Ombudsman is investigating aged care providers in five states to ensure staff receive the correct pay and entitlements. 

The regulator has visited 20 organisations across Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, and Western Australia. 

Fair Work Ombudsman Anna Booth told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons, "We've broken them down to residential aged care home care provider sites and digital platforms.

That's sort of part of the reason why, because the workforce in the residential sector is actually declining, and the workforce in the digital providers and home care sector is increasing."

"And with that comes extra risk of underpayment," Ms Booth continued.

After over a decade of planning and construction, the Wamuran Irrigation Scheme is up and running in Moreton Bay.  

The scheme will divert over 2.6 billion litres of treated wastewater to irrigate local farms. 

Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons, "We are using recycled water whether we like it or not."

"I think the education of the community needs to be taken on this journey of how this water can be used, how it's safe to use."

The Ripple Effect Foundation is inviting Australians to catch a wave to help raise awareness for mental health. 

The aim is to surf for at least 22 hours throughout April to raise funds for preventing suicide and mental illness.
