  • 5LQ Episode 74: Discerning Your Calling in Life –
In this episode of the 5 Leadership Questions podcast Todd Adkins, Daniel Im, and I discuss what "calling" really means. It's a word that gets used a lot in the Christian world, but what does it mean and how can someone know if they're called? We ask the following questions.

    * Is “calling” just for those going into ministry or is everyone called to something?
    * Will we be called to positions/roles we do not want or like?
    * How can you discern between a calling and a desire?
    * Is calling just a vocational thing? Will we always fulfill it on our jobs?
    * How do you know if you’re following your calling.

    Best Quotes
“Everyone is called to be a full time missionary. We’re just going to draw our paychecks from different places.”

“Our first calling is not a vocation and not a job. It’s to be followers of Christ and live out the great commission.”

    “We still practice emotional sacerdotalism.”

“We in the church have made a mistake by thinking that vocational ministry is a higher calling, and we have defined ‘calling’ by that.”

“Calling is about submitting yourself to how God is shaping you.”

“Calling is to be worked in a vocation as opposed to the vocation being the calling.”

“If we think of vocation as the calling we begin to idolize the job.”

“People arte constantly pursuing their passions, but calling doesn’t seem to play a role in that.”

“How do I know if it’s me wanting something or God calling me to something?”

“I know who I am supposed to be. I know how God has wired me. I know what I am passionate about.”

“Calling starts with be godly and be responsible.”

“Calling can lead you in any number of directions, but it will always lead you in a direction that is more godly.”

“Calling is more a direction than a destination.”

“If you are certain that you are called to something but nobody else is it may just be a desire or your imagination.”

“Being in step with what God wants leads to discernment.”

“Don’t be burdened by the bulls eye mentality.”

“Nobody gets madder than nerds about Star Trek and Star Wars.”
