5 Magazine: House Music Podcasts, Mixes and Radio Shows

After learning of the death of phenomenal UK producer and DJ Phil Asher (aka Phlash, aka Restless Soul) we dug through our archives to find this mix, sent to us probably on a CDR back in 2008. We published it along with our first feature interview with Phil Asher in September 2008. Here we remember Phil Asher doing what he did best: DJing.

For LOADED! vol 4, 5 Mag welcomes back the amazing T. Williams, the inspiring tastemaker, DJ, producer and remixer. T. Williams can be heard on RinseFM and has released flawless tracks on Strictly Rhythm, Local Action, Madhouse, Conch and Island, for which he remixed Disclosure's LATCH on their smash Settle LP. This is a 30 minute vinyl-only set of house and garage for your pleasure.

The third installment of LOADED! our garage house series features DJ MJ, bosslady at GarageHouse Cafe with releases on Urban Dubz and Smashing Trax. MJ is the former owner of the 2,000 capacity nightclub Pulse that hosted some of the largest events in the UK Midlands, resident DJ on Grant Nelson's D3EP Radio and an all around passionate lover and pusher of underground music.

World famous and world renowned, DJ Fen is one of the most influential UK Garage DJs, producers and remixers. As half of the legendary duo Ramsey and Fen, DJ Fen launched the seminal Bug Records in 1996 and is at the forefront of the garage house movement in 2020 with his home base, Upcycle Recordings, and from pirate station London Underground he's pulled up stakes for a show on the UK home of house Mi-Soul Radio.

New garage house series loaded from 5 Mag launches with the man from Urban Dubz, Jeremy Sylvester, responsible for records under his own name and touchstone cuts under the guise of Club Asylum, Miles Fontaine, MF Project, G.O.D. Strickly Dubz and more.

Chicago DJ tandem Redux has put together a special mix "reflective of the current state but with a message of love," featuring spoken words from James Baldwin, Malcolm X, President Obama, Nelson Mandela and others.

With his events Blender, SHFFT, and You Are Here on temporary hiatus due to the current global situation, Shmoo has steadfastly refused to rest on his laurels. Instead of meeting the moment with resignation and excuses like, still trying to figure out my next move, Shmoo has taken his act to Twitch, offering a Thursday night party where he alternates between his own stream and the so-called Voltron-of-parties: Oops, Too Soon - where Chicago's Thursday night DJ crew unites for an all night raid party stream. Given the unavailability of live club mixes during these trying times, Shmoo records his streams to offer a slice of the current state of the scene in Chicago. Not the typical slow build mix one would expect in a club setting, Shmoo comes out of the gate swinging - taking you on an uptempo journey ranging from the UK sound of the early '90s all the way to present day Chicago.

We're back again with a new mix from a DJ/producer whose sound we've long admired, Chile's Jorge C. 'Rhythm is the foundation for Chilean producer and DJ Jorge C,' his bio begins, and a cursory listen makes it hard to argue with that. Through his label Ojodeapolo he's explored the multifaceted sounds of Chicago house and Detroit house, giving a platform to many of the genre's giants known and unsung, from Rick Wade to Hieroglyphic Being, Chicago Skyway to Kai Alce.

Norman Weber and Marco Resmann are Luna City Express, a Berlin-based DJ and production duo with a combined 40 years of experience. DJing separately since the 1990s, Norman and Marco as Luna City Express have played multiple times at Circo Loco at Ibiza's DC10. Their latest release is the Delight EP, released by Phil Weeks' Robsoul Recordings, which you can listen to and pick up everywhere right now.

New mix from Carlos Nilmmns, whose name has become synonymous with an eclectic but often deep and sensual sound influenced by the best traditions of Chicago and Detroit. In the past he's released music on some of the best-of-breed labels in the world including Circus Company, Cocoon, Ornaments, KMS, Planet E and Dopewax.
