Thank you for downloading our Podcast published on January 7, 2007. We finish our series of the Servant Songs in Isaiah. There is the unfolding of these songs in the covenant historical record. These songs declare the coming of the suffering warrior who heals us not only from our sins, but brings us to the eternal land of rest. This Concealed Warrior is nothing less than the Lamb of God bringing about a Greater Exodus.

The post Perseverance of the Saints (2): Summary of Dordt (1 Cor. 1:7,8) appeared first on Covenant United Reformed Church.
Thank you for downloading this podcast from Dec. 31, 2006. We arrive at the fifth head of doctrine titled “The Perseverance of the Saints.” In this sermon we consider how the Arminian interprets Hebrews 6:4-6 and also show a reformed view of the text. As we look at this passage we notice that this passage also over prove the Arminian case by the absolute statement “Impossible to restore.” We conclude that this is a passage giving the assurance that the Melchizedekian priesthood has not failed and thus there is the call to continue to walk in this superior priestly line feeding on meat rather than milk.

The post Perseverance of the Saints (1): Summary of Dordt (Heb. 6:4-6) appeared first on Covenant United Reformed Church.
Thank you for downloading this podcast from Dec. 24, 2006. The Canons of Dordt lay out that the Arminian system is not merely something that is slightly in error, but it undermines the whole sovereign will of God. As we look at the scripture passages in this sermon we realize that the grace of God is the realized power of heaven itself. The glory of God has taken hold of us manifesting the glory of heaven as we are grounded in Christ even in this age.

The post Irresistible Grace(2): Summary of Dordt (Misc. Texts) appeared first on Covenant United Reformed Church.
Thank you for downloading this podcast from Dec. 17, 2006. Acts 7:51 states that You have resisted the Holy Spirit? Does this mean that we can resist the Holy Spirit of the Lord and thwart His plan by our wills? We try to answer these questions by showing that Stephen continues with the prophets declaring the covenant lawsuit against the Israelites. Israel is identified as the people who continue to rebel against the Lord because they are uncircumcised of heart meaning they do not individually have the Holy Spirit in a regenerating sense.

Jesus states that He is the good shepherd of the sheep that comes to gather His sheep to Himself. Is Jesus really saying that His work and Shepherding only extends to the Sheep that He has come to Redeem? What about this statement in light of John 5:24 that gives the condition for coming to Christ? Please listen to this sermon to hear the implications of Christ taking on the role of the Shepherd promised by Ezekiel.

The post Limited Atonement (2): Summary of Dordt (Ezekiel 34,John 10) appeared first on Covenant United Reformed Church.
We continue with our presentation of the five points of Calvinism. We move to the L of Tulip which is Limited atonement. We look at John 3 and I John 2:2 considering these passages from the Arminian and Reformed understanding. When we consider these texts we realize that they establish the blessings of Christ go beyond the nation of Israel rather than teaching the atonement of Christ applies to everyone indiscriminately. In fact, these texts would overprooves the Arminian understanding because if the Arminian is correct then it means every human will enter heaven raising many problems in the rest of scripture.

We continue with our presentation of the five points of Calvinism. We are still on the second point of Calvinism (Unconditional Election the U) and now consider the rejection of errors. We lay out Arminus’ understanding of Romans 9 and then offer a Reformed response. Our response in sum is that there is no basis to take Jacob and Esau as types as Arminus wants to read this text through Galatians 4. (Please see the Lyrics section for all the texts cited).

The post Unconditional Election (2): Summary of Dordt (Romans 9) appeared first on Covenant United Reformed Church.
We continue with our presentation of the 5 points of Calvinism. We move to the second point using the acronym TULIP so we move to Unconditional Election. We are going to look at John 3 in light of Ezekiel 36:22ff establishing that the new birth and electing power of God is done to vindicate His name that He will raise a pure people. The new birth is a complete renovation of our being by the power of heaven.

The post Unconditional Election: Summary of Dordt (John 15:1-17) appeared first on Covenant United Reformed Church.
We continue with our presentation of the five points of Calvinism. We spend another week looking at Total Depravity. We read the Arminian article on this point of doctrine and then we look at John 15 to show that we cannot come to God by our own will or initiative because of our depravity. The abiding in Christ happens as we are secured in Him being grounded in Him and so we are called to walk in Him as His presently secured people. These blessings become ours only by the sovereign power of God almighty.

Thank you for downloading this podcast. This is our second broadcast of the week. We take a brief break from the structure of the catechism and now look at a summary of the Canons of Dordt. We will follow the TULIP as we lay out these five points. We will spend two weeks per point to understand these truths being founded upon the word of God. This week we look at Genesis 6 and Ephesians 4 to establish that man is corrupt to his very core because of Adam’s sin.
