Tony Tiyou  is the Founder and CEO of Renewables in Africa, a Clean Energy engineering company and media platform which mission is to Bring (Back) Power to Africa.

Tony previously worked for a decade as Development Engineer, Project Manager, Lead Consultant and Business Development Manager in several companies in the Automotive and the Renewables Industries.

Through RiA, Tony provides project origination and development, together with markets insights to projects in different countries in Africa among which Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mozambique, Botswana.

Tony is a regular technical expert in the BBC Africa show “Questions d’Argent” and has also featured in US broadcasting Stations VOA and EmeraldPlanet TV.

Tony is the author of ‘The Wind Industry Outlook in Africa’, released in November 2017 and has won multiple Awards including African Leadership Impact Investing and being nominated as one of the 50 Top Influential African & Afro-Caribbean Leaders in the UK 2018.

Growing up in South Florida, Daniel was surrounded by & captivated by the Atlantic Ocean. Daniel received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida, focusing on ocean technology. During his time as an undergraduate, Daniel interned with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as an Engineering Assistant and became a University Innovation Fellow. After graduating in 2015, Daniel spent two years as a Pilot & Test Engineer for Bluefin Robotics' Bluefin-21 unmanned underwater vehicles in Boston. Daniel spent the following three years in San Diego as a Contractor for the Navy contributing to mechanical engineering research & development for maritime systems.

After five years in the ocean technology industry, Daniel saw a missed opportunity in the lack of infrastructure to support the development of solutions to positively impact the ocean. Combining his passions for ocean science & exploration, innovation & entrepreneurship, & mentorship, Daniel founded Seaworthy Collective in 2020 to empower current & aspiring oceanographic changemakers. Daniel is thrilled to foster a community facilitating the growth of startups in the ocean science & exploration field. Daniel is also currently pursuing his Master's degree in Exploration Science at The University of Miami's Rosenstiel School for Marine & Atmospheric Science, and was recently recognized as a Miami Global Shaper.

Hello! Welcome back to Five Things and thank you for tuning in!

I am excited about an exciting new update for the podcast. Just before my interview with Jared and in the time since I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with some experienced podcasters and creatives. These brilliant minds shared some wonderful ideas on how I can provide more value to you, the listeners and I decided to make an exciting change. From now on, each month of my podcast will center around a particular theme or topic! This approach will allow me to do deeper dives and have more perspectives on each topic.

Jared Schachter is an entrepreneur, investor, and remote worker. He started his career as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company after which he spent a couple years at Uber where he lead their global accessibility program from the San Francisco headquarters. After getting tired of large organizations and the 9-5 grind, he decided to branch off and do his own freelance consulting for investors and tech startups while also traveling around South America. In 2019 he joined his favorite client, SafetyWing, as Head of Product. They are a seed-stage insuretech startup with a fully remote team that is creating a social safety net for digital nomads and remote workers.
