Evil is never hypocritical. It acts in accordance with its nature without reprieve and without stopping to count the cost to itself. For good men, hypocrisy abounds: good men constantly count the costs to themselves and shy away from confronting acts of sufficient horror. Irresolute, good men seek compromise with evil to achieve a mere order that abandons righteousness. In so doing, good men are complicit with evil. They enable and embolden and empower evil. But is this just mere philosophy? Ask the raped officer, left destroyed and humiliated and abandoned by her leadership of good men.
