What do people need to know about returning outside after spending more time than usual indoors
Dr. Sonia: The skin stressors were reduced when staying indoors. You wanna wear sunscreen every day to really protect the screen even when indoors every single day.
There is an incidental UV radiation that enters into or at home.
Dry weather dries your indoor air causing dry skin and breakouts.
Kat: I have to be extra religious with my sunscreen rituals.
Erica: I just wanted to add, think also about using antioxidants. Using vitamin C antioxidant that’s properly formulated every day that can offer you some prevention about damage and it has a hydrating effect.
Do you have any tips, on how you personally incorporate sunscreen on your daily routine?
Erica: I like tinted sunscreen, I feel like when If I’m applying that kinda makes me feel that I getting cooler and getting that complexion correction.
Kat: Using sunscreen is non-negotiable.
Dr. Sonia: There are two different sunscreens: Chemical and Physical paste. They have pros and cons for both of them. We still recommend either chemical versus Physical paste. The best is the one that works for you at the end of the day. The younger generations use tanning beds, it is the most harmful UV rays that damage your skin and worst skin cancer.
Other tips in reading a sunscreen label
I recommend broad-spectrum, SPF 30 or higher. There is a potential of blue lights from electronics like phones that can cause skin aging and pigmentation issues.
Do you recommend putting sunscreen first in your routine?
Dr. Sonia: Cleanse your face first then thinner serum and the last step is a shield with sunblock.
