As Westerners and Americans, we are conditioned to believe that if we work hard, we will succeed. We are constantly promised that if we don't give up, we will achieve our goals. 

But in reality, mental toughness and hard work are not enough. Sure, mental toughness and hard work can improve our odds of success, but they are simply not enough on their own.
