Have you ever seen a Sonderegger pine? If you visit a southern seedling nursery, you may find them in an unexpected spot… the trash. Dr. Paul Jackson and Kelsey Shoemaker from Louisiana Tech’s South Campus sit down to share their current research aspirations for this unique and often-ostracized hybrid tree. With little to no literature references and a group of baby Sonderegger pines, this team is working towards providing a new perspective on this “ugly duckling” tree and the possibilities it may have for the lumber industry.
