Meleisea Leasiolagi Dr Malama Meleisea lives in Samoa. He holds titles from Poutasi and Salani in Falealili. He holds degrees in Pacific history and politics and is the author of several books on Samoa's history. He served as a judge in the Land and Titles Court for ten months before taking up his current role as Professor of Samoan Studies at the National University of Samoa.  He on the line to talk to us about the history of the Land and Titles Court in Samoa.

Filomena Delai the NZ Rotuman Fellowship Youth Leader and she works with a network to provide young rotumans with support and encouragement to continue learning Rotuman culture.

As we continue our celebrations of Rotuman Language Week 2020.  The theme for this week is - Putua ‘os faega ma ‘os fak Rotuma - Nurturing our Rotuman identity through language and culture.

Dr Prerna Seghal reminds the community to remain vigilant because although NZ has moved to Level 2 and eliminated COVID-19 but it doesn't mean it has been eradicated.

She commended the Pacific community for their response to testing and flu vaccinations.

Dr Prerna Seghal has postgraduate degrees in both Pharmacy and Medicine and is an advanced Trainee in Paediatrics and Respiratory Medicine. She currently works as a Senior Registrar in Paediatrics at Middlemore Hospital in South Auckland.  

Prerna was born in Fiji and raised in Tonga. She was the founding president of the Pacific Island Health Professionals Students Association.  Her interests include Pacific Health, working to improve health outcomes and service delivery for minority populations and fostering a multicultural health workforce.

Pa’u Dr Roy Ausage the Director for the Department of Youth and Women Association(DYWA) and Youth Coordinator Joseph Iosua about the roll out of their COVID awareness campaign.

Despite having zero cases of COVID-19 in American Samoa the community is not being complacent.  The Department of Youth and Women Association have rolled out a campaign including a music video in the hope that it will raise awareness and save lives.

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) and Commerce Commission have launched a campaign to raise awareness of investment scams and pyramid schemes among Pasifika communities in New Zealand. It follows concerns about scams targeting Pasifika and now also a rise in COVID-19 scams. The FMA has seen a steady increase in complaints about a variety of scams since the beginning of March.  We’re joined now by Joseph Liava’a, Associate Commissioner at Commerce Commission for more.

In response to one of the most severe droughts in Auckland’s history, Auckland Council’s Emergency Committee voted unanimously last Thursday to introduce mandatory water restrictions, which will come into effect across the region from Saturday 16 May.

Polynesians represent 5.4% of the top 204 players selected in the 2020 nfl draft despite being only 0.3 % of the U.S. population (18x community size),” the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame wrote on its Instagram account. 

 

The 2020 NFL Draft contained the largest number of Polynesian players selected in NFL draft history at this years draft held at the end of April over three days. Tua Tagovailoa was drafted by the Miami Dolphins with their first pick and the draft's fifth overall pick.  He was the only Polynesian picked in the 1st round.
