As the government looks to ramp up its Covid19 vaccination roll out making the vaccine available to all eligible New Zealanders from next month we talk with Dr Avataeao Junior Ulu about how our Pasefika people in the greater Wellington region will be encouraged to be protected against the pandemic.

 

Dr Avataeao Junior Ulu is leading the work of the Pacific Health team of the 2DHB in the Wellington region.

 

He has a PhD in Development Studies from Victoria University of Wellington and has broad experience in both health and development and is passionate about achieving equity in and health outcomes for our Pasefika communities.

Bay of Plenty Youth Development Trust was a recipient of Le Va Pasifika Suicide Prevention Community Fund earlier this year.

We’re joined now by Henry Fa’afili head coach & trainer at the Tauranga Boxing Academy in Tauranga for more on the amazing work Bay of Plenty Youth Development Trust does. 

Head Coach Henry Fa’afili runs the Tauranga Boxing Academy (TBA) programmes for our rangatahi (youth). Henry has represented New Zealand in rugby league with the NZ Kiwis, and Samoa in rugby union with Manu Samoa. As well as developing and managing the training programmes, Henry acts as role model and mentor, and develops strong working relationships with local schools, service providers, police and members families, with the aim of nurturing a holistic environment for these youth.
