As we continue our celebrations of Solomon Islands Language week 2021 on Pacific Days, we’re joined now by Jeremy Saeniasi: Solomon Islands Youth leader from Hamilton.

Jeremy is a 19 year old from Makira and Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. He moved to NZ when he was 11 months in 2003, the oldest of 3 siblings, he is currently in his first year at Wintec studying physiotherapy.

In a special ceremony held this morning at the Royal New Zealand Police College in Porirua, Wellington,  Superintendent Fata Willi Fanene was officially welcomed into the newly created role of National Partnerships Manager for Pacific Peoples for New Zealand Police.

Fata Willi has been serving in the New Zealand Police for almost 44 years.

He started in the role in May at Police National Headquarters.

Within the Police Māori Pacific and Ethnic Services, his position sits alongside Superintendent Anaru Pewhairangi, managing Māori, and Superintendent Rakesh Naidoo overseeing Ethnic partnerships.

Every Tuesday on Pacific Days, we’re joined by incredible Pasifika business owners/entrepreneurs, to share their journey in business. 

Today, we’re joined by business director Sonny Natanielu of Sonny Natanielu Consultancy. Although Sonny is currently in the start-up phase of his consultation agency, he has provided consultation services regarding culture and Pacific history with future projects & plans in the making. 

Using his experience and academic background, Sonny hopes to provide leadership training and tools for Pacific competency. With a growing knack for learning, Sonny is looking to further his studies and research around this area in hopes to provide more for his business’s future.

Ruth Mika is a young an upcoming pacific artist in the Hutt Valley area joined with her grandma Li’aifaiva Leulua’i aka Sesilia Tuiala, who is the the mother of the late  and great Luana Leulua’i who was the founder and dream weaver of Hutt Fest.

 

Both Sesilia and Ruth have been strongly involved in the running of Hutt Fest, since it first started 9 years ago and continue to support it with Ruth becoming a member of the Hutt Fest 2021 committee dealing with promotion and marketing and Sesilia being a strong Pillar on the Board of Trustees. 

 

The Hutt Fest is happening in Lower Hutt Wellington next week.  To tell us more about the history of the festival and what’s going to be on the programme we have on line and live on our 531PI Facebook page feed festival organising committee member Ruth Mika and Board of trustee member Li’aifaiva Leulua’i Sesilia Tuiala.

Rae Baenteiti is of Banaban and Kiribati origins but was raised and educated in fiji.  His environmental social justice work is linked to the histories of his people.  Rae is a passionate community and youth worker who has completed a Bachelor of Social Work at Massey University and  has now returned home to work with his people.

Ete talks with Rae about how the current COVID19 outbreak is impacting his community and how the social work in rural areas is helping communities.

Floris Niu, is the owner and founder of Ms Sunshine organic Farms Charitable trust in Samoa. 

Ms Sunshine organic Farms is an Organic Cacao Plantation in Tuana'i Village, on Upolu Island, Samoa. They have been exporting beans to a very boutique market in New Zealand for vegan chocolates and health food products since 2014.They also operate a Cacao/ Koko Agritour and host an authentic farm and village experience, featuring cacao and chocolate infused foods and beverages.

Floris is currently in N.Z. to promote Samoa's very first farming calendar being sold in NZ to promote women cocoa farmers, organic farming and the importance for our people to return to our land.
