"Eric Soakai is a Performance Artist based out of South Auckland. From Poutasi, Falealili in Samoa on his Mother's side, and Ha'ato'u, Ha'apai in Tonga. An award winning poet, Eric was the 2019 National Slam Poetry Champion of New Zealand, the 2018 Grounded Slam Champion and has placed well in many other competitions. His work has also been published in Oscen Magazine and will soon be published in the Knowledge Makers Journal Volume V. His work focuses on exploration of Self, family and culture."
Eric is going to be performing at the Auckland Writers Festival as part of the line-up for Auckland Speaks II which is going to be at the Centre this Wednesday.
He will perform alongside other local poets, storytellers and rappers including award-winning Samoan poet, orator and indigenous activist Aigagalefili Fepulea’i Tapua’i and 2017 NZ Poetry Slam Champion, poet, educator, TedEx speaker Samoan Daisy Lavea-Timo aka Daisy Speaks.
