This week on 5.6.7.EIGHT, Aleksandra interviews Katherine Barkman, an award-winning American ballerina who is currently a dancer at The Washington Ballet and has performed as an international guest principal across the world. She began her career as a principal dancer at the prestigious Ballet Manila in Southeast Asia and, at 18, was the youngest artist to claim this role. Katherine has won numerous dance accolades, including consecutive Silver Medals from two of the most prestigious ballet competitions — the XI USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, MS, and the XXVIII Varna International Ballet Competition in Bulgaria.
On the podcast, Katherine recounts her inspiring ballet journey. Having only begun ballet lessons at the age of 14, Katherine's drive to succeed thrust her into the international eye — even with no prior professional experience — and ultimately granted her the opportunity to move across the world only four years later. From Pennsylvania to Manila to Washington, D.C. (and many places in between), she has collected a wealth of wisdom about the nature of our dreams, the importance of performing for the love of the craft, and how grit and determination can accomplish more than we realize.
This week on 5.6.7. EIGHT, Aleksandra chats with esteemed podiatrist Brad Schaeffer, whose smarts extend well beyond the doctor's office. While he's not busy helping young athletes perform at their maximum potential, Brad is curating his social media following — including an Instagram account beyond 76,000 followers — and is competing on nationally-televised reality show competitions. In Spring 2019, Brad competed on NBC's The Titan Games, hosted by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
On the podcast, Brad covers a wide array of topics, including some tips for dancers when it comes to their feet and some wisdom on following your passions. He highlights his incredible story of how he pivoted from professional baseball to podiatry and deep dives on his remarkable social media following. Brad's story and perspective on overcoming obstacles is a positive message that all listeners will benefit from hearing and adopting.
